BLKRSE, pronounced "Black Rose" is an upcoming rap outfit from New Orleans, Louisiana. They released their debut EP, BLOOM, in 2021, curating and cultivating a cult following. They are currently working on new music and artwork, building a brand through their unique and vivid auditory productions and distinctive art direction.

BLKRSE is creating new and innovative music. They require ongoing graphic design needs, album cover designs, motion design, illustration, and web design in order to build their digital presence, post to various social media accounts, and cross promote various upcoming news and events.
Use photography taken from a recording session to craft illustrative work that matches the current aesthetic and themes from the latest BLKRSE album. Take client requirements and create a unique look and feel that will define the future of the visual design of the BLKRSE brand.
Working with project stake-holders, the basic designs of the illustrations were outlined, feedback was provided, and then incorporated after several rounds of revision. Communication loop was constant until the final imagery was signed off on, and production images were delivered.
Deliverables were defined as a set of 5 illustrative works. Each work varies in both subject matter and tone. Storytelling was taken into consideration accounting for the band’s themes of their album cover, which was a light exposition of a tale of a space adventure.
The requested style was that of a vintage comic book. With that in mind, the tone of the imagery was tailored to match that particular aesthetic. Utilizing mono-line techniques and minimalistic expressions, the visual language was procedurally defined.
Base color layers took colors from the provided album cover. An extended color palette was created to meet the need of different surfaces, textures and materials. Through the series of work, a system of color use can be made apparent in the use of glowing greens, muted grays, and gentle hues.
Shadows and various effects were applied to the base color layer, creating both visual depth, and contextual suspense. Rationale behind the effects was to craft an image that would fit the storytelling of the client’s concept, rendering aspects of the space dramas that heavily influenced the idea.
